“At the 117th Ministerial
“At the 117th Ministerial Session the Committee of Ministers agreed, concerning the procedure for election of the Secretary General that it will henceforth present to the Parliamentary Assembly candidates who enjoy a high level of recognition, are well-known among their peers, wood flooring
and the people of Europe, and have previously served as Heads of State or Government, or held senior ministerial office or similar status relevant to the post. Do you find this decision relevant in 2009? vinyl flooring Would you prefer the Committee of Ministers sending names of all candidates to the Parliamentary Assembly without evaluating their competences for the post of the Secretary General”?In my capacity of the candidate for the post of the secretary general it would be improper to comment on any of the decisions of the Ministers or their deputies and especially to give them advice on the procedure to follow. However having a 15 year-long personal experience with the Council of Europe, if I may, beyond this add, carpet cleaning that I fully share the spirit and the targets of the Juncker-report on how to confirm the Council of Europe’s role in order to become a more effective partner in building Europe. I personally particularly welcomed his recommendation on the required profile of the future candidates for the post of the Secretary General, who should be „leading political figures, whose past work for democratic security has already given them a high and positive profile”. Apparently Prime Minister Juncker’s recommendations – and the subsequent ministerial decision on their implementation – have had a considerable positive effect: I have to compete with excellent candidates who deserve all my personal and professional respect, and I feel really honoured to be a part of this contest. I also believe that the Ministers and their deputies are fully entitled to form an opinion on the candidates.
